SPRAVATO - Suicidal Ideation and Behavior Assessment Tool (SIBAT)

Last Updated: 05/20/2024

SUMMARY

  • The Suicide Ideation and Behavior Assessment Tool (SIBAT) is a computerized assessment instrument that incorporates both patient and clinician-reported information relevant for suicide risk assessment. The SIBAT was developed to address limitations in existing assessment tools.
  • The SIBAT is currently distributed by Mapi Research Trust. To access the questionnaire or for additional information regarding conditions of use, please see link.

BACKGROUND

The SIBAT is a computerized assessment tool that was developed to assess suicide ideation and behavior.1-3 The SIBAT builds on existing tools including the International Suicide Prevention Trial (InterSePT) Scale for Suicidal Thinking (ISST), the Clinical Global Impression of Severity of Suicidality scale, and the ISST-Plus, which have several limitations (eg, the inability to capture changes in suicide ideation and behavior in short intervals).1,2

The goals of the SIBAT are to include both clinician and patient-reported information needed to assess suicide risk, differentiate measures of suicide risk prone to rapid change (eg, suicidal ideation) from those that are not (eg, history of suicidal behavior), document clinician’s assessment of imminent and long-term suicide risk along with the management plan for the patient, and meet regulatory standards for use in clinical trials.1

The SIBAT is comprised of 8 modules (5 patient self-reported modules and 3 clinician-rated modules) that capture information on demographics, known suicide risk factors, history of suicidal behavior, and severity of suicide ideation (See Table: The Suicide Ideation and Behavior Assessment Tool Modules).1,2
